Nuttin’ But Stringz

I love these guys!  Thank you for reminding us that there is more to black music  than clubs and ballin and booty shaking and that there are some of us that actually still know how to play an instrument.

You’ve heard the expression, “don’t judge a book by its cover”; teenage brothers Damien and Tourie Escobar are a perfect example. When you first spy the New York duo’s streetwise style, you may expect them to start rapping, but then you hear their violins, and an entirely profound and altogether surprising sound awakens from their souls. Dubbed N.B.S or Nuttin But Stringz, the talented young musicians play an intense blending of classical music, jazz, r&b, and yes, hip hop.

Tourie and Damien, studied at the Juliard School of Music and Bloomingdale School of Music and have taken their mastered skill to startling heights to include the world famous APOLLO THEATER, JAY LENO SHOW and ELLEN SHOW just to name a few.

Growing up in the inner city, Damien was the first to take up the violin at the ripe young age of eight. His passion for the sound was all the inspiration his older sibling Tourie needed. Their combined uniqueness and brilliance, along with support from a close family, makes it easy for NBS to push the envelope on their style and further mold themselves into future stars. The uproar building around N.B.S. started underground in Manhattan and their upcoming debut cd and stage show is greatly anticipated by the masses.

Its soooooo refreshing to see two young men bypass the lure of beat machines and microphones and do something outside of the urban music box.  I hope other young people follow their lead.  And parents, instead of buying the next video game,  try buying a violin or a trumpet.
Damien and Tourie you two are NOT a Hot Ghetto Mess.

Black Violin is a similar group and they, along with another black violinist Karen Briggs, who worked exclusively with Yani in the early nineties and Hidden Beach’s “Unwrapped” project, should definitely have more press. There are more than a few who dare to step outside the box, I just wonder why we don’t welcome them. Are we so stuck believing rap songs and only rap songs can represent us?

LAST TIME I CHECKED, ALL MUSIC IS MADE UINSTRUMENTS WHICH INCLUDE DRUMS, GUITAR, BASS, VIOLIN, CELLO, PIANO, ETC. AND I AINT TALKIN BOUT COMPUTERIZED SHYT EITHA. WITHOUT A BAND THERES NO MUSIC. REAL MUSIC THAT IS.

I FIRST SAW DESE BOYS AT THE APOLLO AND THEY BLEW ME THE FUCK AWAY. THESE ARE ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED GUYS I’VE SEEN. IM IMPRESSED BY THEIR E USE OF THE VIOLIN. IT IS VERY HARD AND IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT TO MAKE HIP HOP THRU A CLASSICAL INSTRUMENT SUCH AS THE VIOLIN. PEOPLE DONT REALIZE THAT.

    BIG UP TO THEM

Man, I’m glad I found this site. I’m going to download the tracks today!

But these guys woke me up one night when watching Apollo! They were awesome- so glad I found this site!

I just want to know why we are supporting these great young people more in the USA and why must they find more success overseas! I’m glad they have it, but we need to appreciate that home grown talent!

Keep it going guys- way to represent!
