But the rest of the country hasn’t heard about a possible serial killer stalking the young women in this Southern town of 60,000. I heard about this. First and foremost my prayers for the victims and their families, with that said if these WERE white women the FBI would be all over this drug, prostitutes or not! Sad

I question,WHY everytime on here there is a reaction immediately about race..it goes right there. Lacy Petersen was HISPANIC not white,just like the girl found dead with the football player,she was not white either.

What if the “different race” in this story was Native American,Asian,Hispanic, or arab? Would it even deserve a mention?
From reading this article, alot of it sounds like a major difference of LIFESTYLE, and the reward money donated/offered. Now, I don’t give a damn if they were hoes, or senators..ther are human beings first to me.
The rest of the world doesn’t always see that first, though. Are there not any black colleges,prominent business folks,or the like who could have been looked to contribute from the get go? Alot of times it seems to me, the more money offered, the more exposure. It sucks, but people will be more sympathetic about a regular girl gone vanished from a walk, then a hoe ..just another hazard of her job right? We need to stop waiting for white people, or the media to do this for us.
Fuckheads like Al Sharpton would be of alot of help trying to help the community with things like this, instead of going on talk shows, and telling black people why they are not as important. WE need to get angry and put the energy into bringing these things to light,instead of comparing ourselves to white people, and the way THEY do things. That is no exscuse.White people are not responsible for what we do, or do not do to help each other. -

This is what you call trifling and sad. It doesn’t make any sense that whenever minority groups such as blacks, Native American/American Indian, Hispanics/Mexicans are missing, there is very little news coverage. Let it be someone caucasian, and they send out the SWAT, Army, the National Guard, and more news coverage than the OJ Simpson case. This is indeed so sad, and a terrible and horrific form of racism. This world needs to get it together.

Is there some possible racial slant to this phenomena? Possibly. But putting this into it’s proper context, and in fairness, it should be noted that thousands of murdered white women are completely unknown to the public. It isn’t just black women.
Sure, leaving this fact out makes for great sensationalism in TV and print. But the injection of a little common sense into these controversies, while not particularly sensational, may be warranted.

The United States produces 85% of the worlds serial killers and at any one time there are 20-50 serial killers at work in the U.S. If you are looking for the F.B.I profilers to help this little town catch this one you are sadly mistaken. This small town is just looking at the big picture in the fact that they have someone that is cleaning up some of their small time crime for them. I’m not saying it’s right but that’s how I think they are looking at it. The reality is that those rednecks in power are saying they have less negro criminal elements to deal with.

Down here on the Farm….Although a Task Force was not formed until June of this(2009)year we have been in contact with The Rocky Mount Authority since day one. By the way one (1) arrest has be made. But, you must understand this not Orange Park, Fla outside Jacksonville (Duval County) were we have had over 1000 tips just last week alone. Redoggman you are correct although it is a shame.

Well, it does not surprise me!… I lived in South Carolina for many years, and I can’t tell you the number of times there were cases like this that happened in and around our home town, and it took people from other states, and even my friends and family at home in the islands to tell me what was happening within miles of your city. It’s unfortunate, but, if a news story does not fit their criteria, which we seldom do, it won’t get the media scrutiny.

I actually had to request the assistance of the police. Luckily everything turned out ok, but I did have to ask myself would they have responded quicker, and at least gotten out of their car to talk to me, had we been white?
(my boy is autistic, and took off). Hmmm…Gotta wonder if he was some little white boy in the burbs….consider me humbled I guess:(
But, I HAVE always been aware that these things do happen, and there is truth to it. -
It’s sad to say trhat I think issues like these have a lot to do with race. Take elizabeth smart as an example. She has been lost and found and she is still making headline news, just because she does normal things like take a trip. The only missing kids stories I see hit the news especially on a national level are of white kids. You can not tell me that white kids are the only ones coming up misssing. They are still airing shows and news pieces on the john bennet ramsey case, and that happened years ago. Sad that this is the way it is….but it is…

I live close to Rocky Mount NC. I didnt hear about any of this until the last victim was found. I believe her family had a lot to do with this getting on the news. Also in Greenville NC there was a young black girl missin for a few days. Luckly her mother other got on her grind and when she was passing out flyers someone reconized the child. She was at a friends house. Why a adult didnt make her call home or go to school I have no idea. I heard nothn about it except through Facebook and a small posting in “The Daily Reflector” newspaper. It is a truly sad situation the only way we make the news is for drugs or other crimes. Black people we must take of our own beause if we dont no one else will.
