I thought the whole point of this website was to help bring to light some of the reasons why racist sterotypes still exsist. Why is it OK to have “black pride” or “latino pride” but not “white pride”. Do you people realize that northeners also had slaves? Did you know that MAJORITY of southeners DIDN’T have slaves because they couldn’t afford it and ended up picking their own cotton and hemp and tobacco and living in conditions that were just as bad as the conditions that slaves lived in? The confederate stood for soooooo much more than slavery. There was so much going on in this country besides slavery that led to the civil war? Regardless of whether or not the south won- it’s still a part of many people’s history. Why can’t we be proud of the sacrifices that our forefathers made fighting for what they believed in and yet you can still be so up-in-arms about slavery? You was never a slave and I was never a confederate solider. There is nothing wrong with the flag itself- it is just a piece of cloth and only holds whatever meaning you decide to give it.

Runny Babbit, this is my opinion, so I’m not speaking for everyone else… The reason why I believe there is no such thing as “white pride” is because the KKK and other hate groups such as this think of “white pride” as a way to down other races in the process of being proud of their own race. They’ve made having white pride sound like a negative thing. Also, I hate it when people say “Get over slavery, you weren’t a slave” and yet when a jewish person speaks of their ancestors being in the Holocaust, I don’t hear anyone telling them to get over it because they weren’t there. Slavery may have taken place over 200 years ago but if black people don’t bring it up, there’s always going to be some racist white person who will, it pretty much goes both ways. Even though the flag might mean something different for her, she should of at least had the decency to not wear that dress around others who may find it offensive.

Bottom line to the stupid argument about ‘white pride’ is the (still promoted) concept of white supremacy. There is much mischief to undo.
To promote slavery (which we know is LEGALLY over – it’s the after effects that I’m concerned with)scientists and philosophers of the day tried to backup the trade by ‘proving’ that blacks were inferior – that whole mess and stigma has not been successfully cleaned up – on this very site I have read instances of individuals who do not believe in themselves because of the messages society still sends to black people, so a big ‘NO’ to any form of white pride, and if you don’t like it, do some research into mental health / crime rates etc. and the ethnic groups affected the most, and ask yourself ‘How did this happen?’ – even better, be part of the solution and help, if the community means anything to you.
Even your common sense should tell you, that with the normal passage of time, mothers still raise their children, and pass on knowledge (or lack of, depending on experience). If I had been ill treated by a particular group of people, don’t you think I’d have warned my children? – you want your children to survive, so you’ll teach them what you think is best.
Evolution is a slow process, you can’t push it. The onus is on the society who started the whole mess in the first place – and it DOES take generations, whether you like it or not. Nobody wishes more than me, that there were a magic wand that could be waved, and it would all be over, but you gotta wake up…
Here’s an example: If you catch your partner cheating, you may dump them, or put them through hell until you get over it, but they cannot tell you to get over it just because they are uncomfortable! – same rule applies to this argument, that’s how healing works.

My ancestors weren’t plantation owners by any stretch of the imagination. Not all white people own a Confederate flag. The girl in this photo will hopefully in the future learn that this wardrobe malfunction was offensive.But in her defense, her daddy Bubba and her 3rd cousin/Momma Tami Jean probably helped her pick that out, had sell some deer meat and not buy dip and beer for 2 weeks just to afford it. Now it is hanging proudly outside the single-wide. Plus the dress was a bargain, it came with a free bottle of baby oil to hook up the redneck tan she had. Her other cousin, Jethro was her date. Actually, the South stood for States rights. While slavery was probably the worst thing in American history I do believe in states rights. The states should be allowed to govern themselves more than the federal government. I know how to take care of my family better than the president does. My local gov’t knows what I need. That state gov’t in-turn knows better. And finally the federal gov’t.
The only thing that might rival slavery is what’s being done now. It’s VERY easy to keep minorities down by giving them handouts. Why would you work at all if the government it gonna give you money. Yes, I am saying that some people would rather remain poor and live off welfare than succeed. You won’t get anywhere while the gov’t is giving you handouts and placating you with entitlement programs. -

For the record…. the north was not the “beacon of freedom” elementary history books would let you believe. Check some documents dating back to that era.
The north, while not as openly racist about these issues, still had plenty of it in their society. It was just kept hush for a little under 200 years. Why do you think we were in such an uproar in the 60s to end it? Word got out to other countries, including our enemies about the United State’s hypocritical treatment of its own people.
Things aren’t black and white. Most of the our country’s “good fights” have, when the government was an active participant, been over money.
This woman decided to wear a dress that boasts the traditionally confederate flag. Poor choice? Maybe. Trying to change the meaning? Maybe as well. No way we will know for sure… but her dress should not spark anger within the community of this site.
It should instead make us ever more determined to live our lives with a level of respect and dignity for others that some of us feel is lacking in images like these.

All i can say about this is, make sure you read the deep history of that flag before you start throwing words out there. Some schools books are fabricated in more ways then one. They might get offended if we wore a flag as a dress, everything that we think is good, wont be agreed on by everybody. There are people in other countries that think we are the devil purely because we are american. They don’t care if we are white, black, or purple. They see American flag, they see evil people… so just remember that.
Hopefully there will be a time where we can celebrate every culture, but still remain united as citizens of this country. Personally I could care less about the dress. There were more things regarding the civil war, then just slavery.
