I live in LosAngeles, and Cost Co. was selling this MESS untill one of the customers made a STINK about it, so Cost Co pulled them from their shelves ! Racist People have been OFF THE CHAIN since Prez Obama took over ! We have been under white prez. for EVER, and we get ONE BLACK MAN in 100 years, and they wanna LOSE THEIR MINDS!.. I’m not trying to justify this, I just think people need to get the whole picture before making a judgment. I admit, when I first read the story, I was really confused; then, a friend of mine told me she saw the other dolls in Costco. And there are other people who have commented on this story on other websites, and they’d seen the white and hispanic versions as well.
Like I said, I think this was just a case of bad marketing. I wonder if they’d even tested people’s reactions to the dolls before they released them to stores. It’s still not a good look.

I saw the other versions of the doll too. The company’s is out of Washington state and they did apologize. I didn’t get offended, because it seemed like the creators were ignorant to how the mord monkey is used in context with blacks. But also since there was also a mexican doll too, and a white one…..I honestly don’t think they meant it in that way. I could be wrong though.

@shitstinks: Well, I say it’s a case of bad marketing because obviously “monkey” is offensive to black people, and they either weren’t savvy to that, or just decided to put the doll out anyway, for the sake of having “diversity”. I honestly don’t think that the company would put out the doll just for the sake of being racist; it all comes down to money. What money would they make off of a doll that offends so many people and nobody wants to buy? If any company puts out a product that is virtually unprofitable and has to be pulled off the shelves within a week, that is terrible marketing.
And yes, the other dolls were lined up with the black doll, but come on – people will look at all three of them, see the black doll and still say, “That doesn’t look right…” Some people are more sensitive than others, so of course someone would make a big stink of it.

I am an African of Indian heritage with dark skin and long straight hair; the one thing I learned growing up is that as long as my skin is dark, I will be a nigger to some folks. (Acting niggerish never helped either)

Just think about your own situations, and experiences and you’ll see what I mean. Certain folks will say and do things in your presence to evoke a response. Now the key is, you don’t want to just fly off the handle and act like a ignorant nucca!, cause that’s what they want and expect, just respectfully disagree, and state your position with facts to support it. Having done this, they will most likely not be able to rebutt your response, cause 9 times out of 10, they don’t know enough to rebutt it, although they act like they do, but one thing is for sure, from that point forward, they will be very careful about what they do and say in your presence!….Just test it out, and you’ll see for yourself!….P.S. remember that in most cases, these people just repeat things and do things they’ve heard others or their parents say and do, and since they hold these people in high esteem, they often don’t try to find out themselves. So you throw them for a loop when you have the knowledge and experience to prove them wrong!…they can’t handle that!

The choices in the animal kingdom are endless for the manufacturers to have chose an animal pal. What about a cat? A puppy? Or better yet, a lamb? Since lambs are usually associated with babies. They weren’t thinking. And somebody mentioned that both the white and Hispanic version have monkey pals, too. Still, they should have thought about this decision. They ain’t slick. It’s the same issue with the Obama sock monkey doll.

If the Mexican and the white dolls have monkies as well then this is offensive. If I showed a black person the black doll first, they would think its racist. If I showed them the whole set then they would think its cute. We can’t prove its racist because the other dolls have monkies as well. The thing about the media and companies today is that they use open racism to attract viewers. Take Mcdonalds for example. They exploit black people all through their commercials. Their food is already somewhat terrible. Every mcdonalds commercial today has a black family going to their cheap ass dollar menu restaurant. Excuse my language. Us as African Americans love to play the race card on somethings. We need to step away from that. It wasn’t intentional and the dolls have been taken off the shelves. It’s like the woman said: They probably didn’t think of it like that. Some people are not educated on things like that, and it seems that these people fit that category. The racism that we see today is NOTHING like it was 2 – 300 years ago, so NONE of us can say we know how it is.

I’m not sure where some of you guys live, but I’m telling you, don’t think because you don’t see it where you live, that it’s not rampant out there. Just come spend a few years in the deep south, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. You may be surprised to know and see things still happening that your parents and grandparents experienced many years ago. In many cases it lies just under the surface, but here in the south they often don’t even try to hide it.

To me Black people are beautiful, they have beautiful skin tone, that come in all shades, and beautiful features,hair texture and most all have beautiful teeth.
