I stumbled onto your website completely by accident (or should I say axident..) and I was completely fascinated.
First, your writing is brilliant. I really really respect what you said in your Editors note. I’m sure you hear this frequently but it can’t hurt to hear it again, your writing is amazing. I love that you talk about things that others are afraid to bring up.
Second, I really enjoyed your blog “Conversate is not a word” and your t-shirts. I will be buying your book.
As, a young white person I am very glad to have stumbled across your blog. While most of the people I encounter would never dare to say anything making fun of the “ghetto” people that we see all too often,I think it does affect how we perceive and group people together. I just want you to know that your blog has the power to change the minds of people, because reading about you and your story demonstrates that there are people who want change and accountability.
In my opinion, your blog, and editors note, is a lot more powerful and helpful to the black community than anything that has been taught to me in my “Minorities” classes.
I will be forwarding your info to a few sociology teachers at my University. I know at least one teacher that has pretty open curriculum and I could see her using your website as a discussion starter, if you don’t mind.
You are someone that any young woman should attempt to emulate.
Keep up the good work!
Those With Complaints About Ads on the Site Can Suck It
Your system is incredibly slow and the abundance of ads have stopped most of the people I know from looking at the site anymore. Used to be interesting now its just frustrating. You need to slow down on selling ads or shut it down.

It kills me when a bunch of people want to tell me to stop running ads on the site but dont want to pay shit to visit it. Do you know how much this costs to run? Or do you think I just pull it out of my ass all day? The site isnt paid for by the internet fairies. Believe me, I wish i had some perfect site that was fast and efficient but a sista gotta eat. I’m not some big company with unlimited resources, I’m a regular chick trying to make a dolla outof fifteen cents like everyone else. So love me or leave me babe…
If the person who penned this email is teaching our children, we are all in trouble. Its funny, they never tell me which picture.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,I JUST VIEWED YOUR WEBSITE AND YES IT IS VERY HILLARIOUS AND ENTERTAINING BASED UPON THE COMMENTS THAT ARE POSTED UNDER THE PICTURES. SOMEONE SUBMITTED A PICTURE OF ME TO YOUR WEBSITE AND I REALLY DONT MIND THE PICTURE BEING POSTED OR THE COMMENTS AND HATE THAT PEOPLE THROW OUT, BECAUSE PEOPLE HATE ON ME ON A REGULAR. BUT THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THIS GETS TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT AND SUBMITTED TO THE WRONG PEOPLE. I POSTED THE PICTURE ON MYSPACE FOR MY FRIENDS TO VIEW BECAUSE I LIKE THE PICTURE, BUT MY MYSPACE PAGE IS PRIVATE AND ONLY VIEWABLE BY THOSE WHOM I ALLOW IT TO BE VIEWED BY FOR A REASON. I AM A TEACHER AND I CAN LOOSE MY JOB IF THIS PICTURE GETS INTO THE WRONG HANDS ON THE COMPUTER AND LOOKED AT IN A DIFFERNT VIEW THAN WHAT I SET IT OUT TO BE….I WORKED TOO HARD FOR MY POSITION AS A TEACHER AND I WOULD RATHER NOT LOOSE MY JOB ESPECIALLY OVER SOME JOKE FROM SOMEONE ELSE. I KNOW I CAN NOT TELL YOU WHAT TO DO, BUT I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD TAKE THE PICTURE OFF OF YOUR WEBSITE.
THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE,
NEW JERSEY TEACHER
This is a mirror for black folk, this is a way for them to see themselve’s as this sick society see’s them. I actually enjoy veiwing the material and i do find some of sad the humor can be refreshing. I myself being a black man from bklyn ny now living in the atl grew up in the ghettoes of nyc during the 60’s,70’s,80’s i pulled out after school, so come on black people take advantage of this country’s free education system and please educate your children so they don’t grow to admire some of the clowns and crabs on this site.
You are a brave individual and I can only imagine the hate mail you get every day. Your statement on the homepage is something I have been saying for years and for years my friends (white and black) have called me a bigot and a racist. I’m a white guy who has lived in black neighborhoods and always wondered why – if the black community hates the stereotypes – do they perpetuate them and why don’t the community leaders come out and try and change such behavior? For once I’d like to see Al Sharpton march against littering or wearing your sweat pants BELOW your buttocks. The Million Man March was a start, but what’s happened since? Where’s the follow through? Bill Cosby started speaking up last year and was immediately derided by his own people. We’ve had 40 years of patronizing social programs and still the ignorance and the poverty and the paralyzing behavior continues. Government can’t help. You look at Chinese immigrants, who start with the crappy poker hand of not knowing English, not having citizenship and working 80 hours a week in many cases and by the second generation their kids are valedictorian of their class at Harvard. On the second deal they’re holding a straight flush, ace high. Chinese parents teach one lesson: education is the key to advancement. I haven’t heard this message from any black leader since James Brown sang “Don’t Be a Dropout” (we’ll miss you, JB).
So, if there’s one thing I would add to your site, it would be a form for letters and emails imploring black congressional and community leaders to come together and promote self improvement. To have a single voice and a clear message. Berate them for not creating programs on starting a small business, how to become a homeowner, the importance of a two parent family, how crucial education is to future earnings, etc. The message and the change MUST come from within the black community and MUST have a single voice, becase we saw what happend to ‘Cos when a single man or woman has had enough and starts blowing the whistle. The Japanese have a saying: “the nail that sticks up gets hammered down”. Unity is the key.
I wish you all the best on your mission and your remarks about helping others has struck a chord. You got me thinking and self examining. Thanks.
Hello I just found your website and i find it interesting and i like the work you are doing, but I have a question, are you a racist??? I only ask because most pictures where there are interracial couples are labeled a “hot ghetto mess” and i do not agree ( aside from coco and ice t). Is it just because they’re an interracial couple???? ei. the Halle Berry pic with that guy from New kids on the block, I mean its just a picture!!!ps. Im a Black Latina!!!!!

In the words of Miss Sophia (The Color Purple):
“I was feeling mighty low…and then I seent you. Now I know’d there is a God!”I’m kind of embarassed that I’m actually drawn to your site. It’s almost a guilty pleasure (in a sick and twisted way! LMAO!)
But I have to give credit where it is due. This is an excellent idea!
You’re forcing us think about who we really are and how far this society has driven us away from the beauty that is…
Congrats to the entire staff for getting this together!!!
